I would also classify ’Sunny’ as LH.

all the old classification were based on phenotype (the estethetics, in a simple explanation) while the new classification is built on genotype (DNA research, biological base).

Maybe we could agree that we use phenotype and not genotype? And what the actual genetic composition is, is of secondary importance!? (at least this is my way of seeing taxonomy, that most of us who are into hybridisation discard the new classification where all are considered echinopsis, and that we still use the old way with Trichocereus, Chamaecereus, Soehrensia, Pseudolobivia…)

when I use ’Sunny’ in my hybridisation, I think of it as LH (when chosing parents, thinking about compatibillity and the looks of the coming offspring etc).

(I’m making a new effort to take part in discussions here, my last one was like 10 years ago and it wasn’t totally accepted, so I’ve been a passive member since)

Even though the same genetic material is shared through the pollen, there is sort of a ”tombola” in work, all pollen grains doesn’t produce identical flowers.

That ”tombola” function may be related to locality of the pollen grains.

interesting thought if individual flowers also affect this (like size, as you mention Sami). I had spontanous mutations, or ”freak flowers” ocassionally (e g a yellow flower on a normally dark orange flowering hybrid) and I’ve saved pollen from that freak flower to test this. It is a difficult and time consuming task to make any conclusions from this though.

Speaking about pollen and pollination: I’ve had the idea that pollen taken from different parts of the flower may carry different characteristics/traits on the outcome.

Nature seems to place a challenge inside everything in nature. ”When everything is possible, nothing is longer possible”.

So according to this above, as an example: pollen taken from deep down from the inside of the tube of a flower may produce flowers with an even more narrow tube!?

I know this is speculation and will be next to impossible to claim something like this scientifically, but I find it an interesting subject! This idea is more of a philosophical character though.

I often brush my cotton stick on the outside of the stigma, never had the idea that it should be the inside only to recieve the pollen. I get a lot of fruits, so it should work fine with the outside of the stigma!

Thank you all for nice comments, thank you moderator Stachelbär for editing the title of my post!

I forgot that I had another clone of this cross with ”broken colors”, here is another sister that I call 49-2019

    Hej Vikan!

Mycket snart blommar hela växthuset här, Schönste, Flying Saucer, Prachtstuck, Kleopatra, First Light, Superapricot...
